Clovis was the son of Childeric I, Merovingian king of the Salian Franks, and Basnia.
Queen of Thuringia succeeded his father in 481.
Conquered the rump state- Roman Empire at the Battle of Soissons (486)
When he died in 511 he conquered much of the northern and western parts of Roman Gaul
His Germanic name means- fame and combat
